Description of McDonald's Express
- Feb 12, 2008 11:53:11 AM
Regular mickey d's not fast enough? You're looking for the McDonald's Express then. In this particular location run by a very "by the book" manager you can read about "how to spot a counterfeit mcdonald's gift certificate" while you wait. And don't try to use the bathroom here without buying something. Really, don't try it. You've been warned.

Description of Vitamin Shoppe
- Feb 12, 2008 11:44:11 AM
The Vitamin Shoppes (yes, they really use the "ppes" version of the word "shop") is a low profile kind of health food place that has been around for years. Of course they carry, well, vitamins, but they also have various health food items and even a cooler case with cold, healthy drinks. One of their best kept secrets is the Vitamin Shoppes brand protein powder which appears to have the same ingredients as the expensive brands, but is only 2/3 of the price. They sell it in small barrels at this location. Store Hours: Monday-Friday 8-9, Saturday 10-7, Sunday 11-6

Description of Papayak King
- Feb 12, 2008 11:38:21 AM
This name of this New York chain brings up a number of interesting questions, including "how does one actually become the Papaya King?" Don't expect the staff in the west village location to be able to answer this question, but it was fun watching them try to come up with some very creative answers. Also don't expect to sit down here as as it's a stand up/take out kind of joint only. But lunch won't cost more than 8 bucks, and you'll get to sample what is often called New York's best hotdog.

Description of Jean Shop
- Nov 2, 2007 3:43:50 PM
The merchandise is the decor at this rustic yet hip specialty shop. Jeans hang from the racks and walls, while burnt orange and brown leather jackets maintain the countrified feel. A wooden motif pervades the shelves and cabinetry, a guitar hangs in the back and even the dressing-room curtains are pieced together with denim. Sporting the apparel themselves, the saleswomen seem genuinely enthusiastic about their products.

Description of Stella McCartney
- Nov 2, 2007 3:43:50 PM
McCartney's first boutique is a study in pastels and mirrors. Mannequins greet the clientele from a shallow reflecting pool, and walls are adorned with sculptured tile shaped like daisies. The music is low and the cut flowers are romantically wilting as moguls on cell phones seal deals on understated sofas while their wives get the royal treatment from the efficient, if aloof, sales staff.

Description of Carlos Miele
- Nov 2, 2007 3:43:50 PM
One look at the flamenco dancer-inspired gowns in this boutique and the Brazilian designer's heritage is hard to miss. The shop's bold collection is in good company with across-the-street neighbors like Alexander McQueen, and while Miele's designs are far more subdued than his country's famously flashy Carnivale attire, he still places sultriness front and center.

Everything you wanted from a trendy club-bar-restaurant and less. Less attitude, less discomfort, less elbow contact, and less-forgettable food. Lotus is a blooming surprise. A slight kitschiness keeps it warm. Nice-guy owners keep it friendly. And the kitchen keeps you well-fed. Think of the velvet rope outside as a ribbon. And Lotus as a gift.
