    Quick, if you wanted to see a Van Gogh painting in Manhattan where would you go? If you guessed the MoMA, you'd be half right. You can find them there, but if you don't want to brave the crowds and the extremely aggressive coat and bag check regulations, you can just take the A to the 14th street stop to check out that biggest street level reproduction of a Van Gogh ever seen...in a dry cleaners. Oh yes and word has it they have turn around time and are expert spot removers. And they have antiques in the windows, really what more could you ask for?

    Just because it's called the Jane Street Convenience Store does NOT mean it's on Jane Street. This neatly manicured West Village convenience store is perhaps a step above the regular bodega and even has a something amazing array of savory snacks, including some of the barbecued chip products that are exceedingly rare in Manhattan outside of larger grocery stores. Locals swear by it as a place to buy a winning lottery ticket.

    The chocolate bar... get it, it's a bar where you eat chocolate, but it's like the name of a type of food too...a chocolate bar? Anyway, whether you get the slight pun or not this is an interesting and well lauded place to buy some of the finest and quirkiest chocolate around. You can eat it here (you can wash it down with hot chocolate of course) or take it home. But hide it from your kids, these are grown up chocolates! They also have their own line of chocolate-wear. This is clothing with their logo, funny sayings about chocolate etc, not unfortunately, made of chocolate.

    Shelly's Gift Shops sells all sort of gifts, if by gifts you mean "magazines." And magazines they do have, on all sorts of subjects from art to science to physics to fashion to gay men's culture mags. A lot of gay men's culture magazines. A few snacks here but seriously, a lot of magazines.

    Even if you don't have typewriter (and you probably don't, since it's not 1985) you might want to visit this office equipment haven turned fancy stationery store. They have cute papers in colors I've never even heard of, all manner of calendars, and planners, organizers galore. A perfect place to take a Virgo on a first date, and cheaper than some of the larger fancy stationery stores.

    it's called Spring Cleaners but it's not on Spring Street and you can take clothes there any season. But the owners of the Spring Cleaners aren't intentionally trying to confuse you, they are just happy to be doing what they're doing in their busy location. Don't miss their retro 70s neon sign and don't forget they also clean and repair leather. So dig out those chaps and bring 'em down!

    Ah the West Village Lukoil, one of the few places in the bottom half of Manhattan where you can actually fuel up that vehicle that it's almost impossible to drive in Manhattan anyway. A ton of taxi drivers stop here, so expect a wait even in the middle of the night. And you can go in the middle of the night, they're open 24/7. They have a bathroom that's sometimes open to the public (depending on the mood of the attendant) but if you aren't seriously desperate, wait. Has a small convenience store, also open 24/7.

    You might stand on 8th Avenue and wonder if this little beauty is closed (the completely opaque windows won't help with this) but in fact it is still alive and kicking after some time in its busy West Village location. This is the kind of bar where you can actually have a conversation. Has a little bit of a menu including some rather non bar menu type items such as adamame.
